In light of COVID-19, the best employment opportunity many people may have could be starting a home business. This is not only because good jobs are scarce, it is because many people now see the value of controlling their destiny and want freedom and power over their lives.
A home business can start as a side gig, if you are currently employed, or quickly become your full-time work if you are not. In either case, a home business takes resources, most especially, your time and energy. The idea of starting a home business can seem glamorous but, in truth, it takes effort and a lot of it.
Don’t be discouraged as a home business can be extremely rewarding and not only financially. It can give your calendar flexibility and that can be very helpful if you have other responsibilities or commitments. It can also be a new source of identity. Yes, a home business requires patience and persistence but the rewards can far outweigh the effort.

Are you a people person? Are you shy? Do you like social media? Do you prefer talking on the phone or emailing? Do you like making videos or writing? Having your own business means you can build much of it around your strengths and preferences.
What would an ideal home business look like to you? What industry would it be in? Do you want to work for yourself but not by yourself or go it solo?
Since you’re reading this article, you own or have access to a computer, tablet or phone and internet access. In truth, you are already on your way. Now just start noticing where you spend more of your time online. Ask your family or friends what you talk about most.
It’s also a good idea to create a list of things that you dislike doing and the things which are difficult to do in your case. In other words, know your strengths as well as your weaknesses.
After you have made your list, then you’re ready to choose but take your time. Enjoy the process. Dream a little. You can do this and it won’t cost you barrels of money either. Your business will reside right on your computer, tablet or phone and in a short time, you can have everything you need to get started.
The best thing is that you work from your home or at the café or wherever you want. What that means is no additional costs like rent, utilities or employees. In other words, more potential profit for you. We will talk about some of the other stuff later.
